Coffee – Just One Cup a Day

It seems that not a single day can pass without the scientific and nutritional community making yet another breakthrough that seems to identify a particular food or beverage as being important to the maintenance of good health and well being. The latest food to be elevated to near godliness has been coffee, and whilst it is already an extremely popular beverage among people of and from all walks of life, the latest research will no doubt go a long way to further reinforcing its popularity.

If you take a look at the composition of any anti aging or skin improving product then you will no doubt see that coffee is an active ingredient within it and the reason for this is rather surprising fact is very straightforward: the number of antioxidants that are inherent within coffee.

Scientific research has identified that coffee contains a very high concentration of so called “antioxidant agents”, and these are typically used to help remove free radicals from the body, as well as bolstering the bodies natural defense mechanisms that exist to limit their harm. Free radical are required and essential in order to ensure that certain and ultimately crucial processes within the body are performed as and when required. However, when left unchecked, they run rampant and cause considerable damage and thus antioxidant agents help to neutralize the worst effects.

However, coffee goes so much further than merely helping to keep skin looking smooth and supple, as the antioxidants also go quite a considerable way to helping to prevent cancer as well strokes and heart attacks because they actively bolster the immune system. People who suffer from respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis and the like will also benefit from increasing their coffee consumption because the caffeine in the coffee will help more blood to be produced, thereby allowing more oxygen to be distributed around the body.

However, just like anything else, it is imperative that you do not exceed the daily recommended amount of caffeine, and that you abide by this rule religiously. The most recent figures have identified that 400mg per day for an adult is the safe limit, and beyond that amount will actually be counter productive in the long term.

People rely on coffee in order to make them more active and provide them with a much needed energy boost, and this is perfectly reasonable and understandable. That said, care should be taken in order to ensure that your coffee consumption is spread evenly during the course of an entire day, so that you will be able to keep your energy up more consistently. By spacing your coffee intake out evenly it also means that you will be less likely to give into temptation and end up gorging yourself on the caffeine fix. Too many people rely on too much coffee too early on in the day, which means that come the late evening, their energy begins to crash as a result of the dip.
