Planning a wedding is a huge expense. It seems like very little thing you do whittles away at the check book. One of the more expensive items is decorating for the reception. You have a few options though to make it a bit more affordable. Here’s a guide on how to decorate outdoor wedding tables.

The first thing to talk about is the overall table arrangement. A great option is to use multi-sized tables arranged in clustered groups. This let’s your guests commingle with others around. Put a couple tables for 8 with some tables for 4 interspersed between them.

Let’s start out by looking at your overall wedding theme. You’ll want to pick table décor that fits in with it. White table clothes are the most traditional, and predictable. Instead why not go with a tablecloth theme that incorporates the bridesmaid dress colors?

After you have the table cloths down you’ll want to decorate the table border. A little decorative fringe around the edges will work. You can also drape a table cloth around the edge of the table to give it that formal look. A braided rope around the edge of the table can help add visual lines to the overall appearance and break the monotony of a monotone table setup.

Let’s keep building up the table. After you’ve picked a table cloth and decorative border it’s time to move to the table surface. Use a bit of confetti or some sparkly sprinkles dusted across the table surface to give it a festive look. If you’ve gone with the white table cloth then multi colored glitter can help brighten up the table and give it a more festive appearance.

Now it’s time to work on the table centerpieces. The typical fashion is just to throw out a couple bouquets of flowers. There are tons of other options though. First off you can arrange a great centerpiece out of vegetables or fruit. It’ll be a multifunctional centerpiece that will serve as decoration and hors douvres.

Another option is to use lighting combined with the centerpiece. You can find multi-colored LED candles that provide a subtle lighting effect for each table. These are a little bit safer than going with regular candles as there is no risk of fire! If you have to have the true candle experience then look for a squat low candle that you can nestle in the center piece. Tea or votive candles will work great. You can either work them into the center piece or float them in small bowls with water and rose petals.

The final area is what kind of chairs to use. The standard metal folding chair is the most affordable. It looks institutional and ugly though. So why not spice it up with a draping that matches the tablecloth.

By focusing on the table cloth, centerpiece, table edging, lights, and chairs you can build an affordable reception that will look great. This guide on how to decorate outdoor wedding tables is just a start. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination when planning your perfect wedding.
